Reviews about Steve's Tyres and Wheels
- ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆2017-09-26, by Marcus SalemGo elsewhere because Steve's Tyres doesn't need your business. Sounds like an outrageous claim doesn't it? Well, let me tell you what your experience will most probably be like at this place. You'll phone and request a certain tyre. You'll be lightly reprimanded if it isn't a Nokian tyre (because, sshhh, they're an authorised reseller) and you'll also be told that they're really busy. Remember this, they're ALWAYS VERY BUSY. Busy, busy, busy, busy. They'll tell you the tyres will be in next morning. You'll ask to be booked in and they'll tell you they don't take bookings, you just turn up, it only takes 40 minutes for 4 tyres. OK, sounds cool. So you turn up and notice THEY'RE REALLY BUSY. The member of staff at the desk, who looks like a mentally broken ex-soldier with PTSD, looks at you blankly and grunts. You tell him who you are - he has no idea about anything but proceeds to tell you that THEY'RE VERY BUSY and you'll be leaving the car with them. You say you were asked to pop over, it only takes 40 minutes, you don't live in Buxton. The ex-soldier tells you there are 4 cars in front of you so it will be about 3 hours. So you say "shall I walk around Buxton for 3 hours?" and the war hero says "if you like". So you say "OK well I'll leave it for today if you're so busy and come back when you're not so busy" and suddenly the infantryman rallies forth and does some looking through a book then says, magically, he can fit you in now and it will take 40 minutes. You ask him if he will phone you when it's ready - he says no, and tells you to just turn up in 40-45 minutes. So, you return from your tour of Buxton having given the troops nearly an hour (just to be safe) and the car is fitted with the new tyres. Now, if you've ever visited a hospital to see a friend or relative and tried to ask a member of staff for information about their condition etc., you'll understand this. They pretend you're not there. You know? You go up to the desk and the nurses, doctors or staff just stare down at what they're doing or just continue talking to each other and don't acknowledge your presence. Well, that's the reception (or lack thereof) you get at Steve's Tyres. To be fair, it's a common experience at most garages and service centres so it will be familar to you. So, after walking into the empty reception and then back outside to find somebody, eventually one of the soldiers clocks you. What the hell are you're doing, walking around, as if you're lost? Then a faint flicker of comprehension alters their blank expression and they deduce that this car in front of them, that they've just fitted tyres to, is... (drum roll)..... your car and you need the key TA-DAH! And everyone lives happily ever after... So, to wrap this up, you know what they say about shopping local? You know, buy local, support local businesses, all that malarky? It's b*******s. They don't need your business. You're an inconvenience to them. THEY'RE ALWAYS BUSY, they don't need any support. Do the sensible thing and buy your tyres online and then go to any old back street hole of a garage to get them fitted. The end.
